Utility Mat/Mobile Work Station
Please note that the Provisional Patent Application for the Utility Mat / Mobile Work Station was filed July 30, 2018.
I was tasked with creating an office or desk accessory to be used in the near future. My project was to be speculative in nature, and my research pointed to the increase in the traveling habits of the Millennial. I have found that Millennials seek experiences over material gain, and many desire to work away from the office, and instead work all over the globe: from co-working spaces, to hotels, to park benches in the city.
The skills that I have acquired during the creation of the Utility Mat/ Mobile Work Station range from conducting market research, to making observations in a park, to iterative sketching, and finally to learning how to apply multiple materials and finishes in the Keyshot rendering program for the first time.

Sketch
Once it was decided that I would design a mat, I envisioned how it would fold, and how it would be deployed.
Sketch Model
Affixing objects to a silver mat. each object fits within a bowl, tray, or lid, which are in turn glued to the mat. The cardboard on the left is a sketch for a foldable lap desk.
